We will see on this article the effect of Rhassoul and Shikakai on all types of hair.

We will also take the time to discover the properties of these cleansers and the definition of the curls.

Focus on shikakai

It is a powder originating in India fromAcacia concinna. Thanks to the components of this shrub, it helps to remove dirt.

To obtain the powders traditionally used by the Indians, the Acacia has to be dried and then ground.

Although this powder does not produce as much foam as shampoos, it is an excellent hair wash.

What about Rhassoul ?

It's a clay found in Morocco. Also called Ghassoul, Rhassoul has always been used by Moroccan women to wash and embellish their hair but also their skins.

I, for one, used bentonite-type clay on my hair.(see here my clay mask)

Conclusion: Rhassoul and Shikakai act differently.

The Rhassoul absorbs the dirt from the hair while the Shikakai eliminates it. Besides, the latter is more expensive than rhassoul.

Mask preparation based on these products

  • Rhassoul
Mix 3 tablespoons of rhassoul with room water to make a paste.
  • Shikakai
Mix 3 tablespoons of shikakai with water until a semi-liquid paste is obtained.
It is advisable to leave the mask for 10 minutes before rinsing it.
  • Why water chaude ?
Because hot water releases the saponins from the Shikakai to cleanse the hair.
  • Precaution of use
Shikakai is extremely volatile and can have a negative effect on the respiratory tract. Wearing a mask is therefore recommended during preparation.

Also, do not use oil after applying the product.

  • Product application
I wet my hair, split it in half, then applied the product. I massaged my scalp and then rinsed my hair with apple cider vinegar.

Shikakai or rhassoul, which to choose?

  • The advantages of Shikakai
Gives more volume to the hair, cleanses perfectly well and has a pleasant smell.
  • The disadvantages of Shikakai
The hair is dry when applied, the preparation leaves something to be desired.
  • The advantages of Rhassoul
Improves curls, cleanses very well while softening hair, less expensive.
  • The disadvantages of Rhassoul

It leaves a residue on the scalp, it does not offer volume.

Rhassoul is a clay that works very well as a shampoo. It is possible to add a little oil for a dazzling result.
Shikakai offers a more hydrated effect than rhassoul, so the use of oil is not necessary.
